10 Most Popular Nigerian movies on NetFlix 2021

    The Nigerian movie industry Nollywood has recorded steady growth, and it is now the second-biggest movie industry in the world, following India’s Bollywood.

    Many movies produced by the talented minds of Nollywood also rank high in the world’s entertainment scale. In this post, it is my pleasure to bring to you the top 10 most popular Nigerian movies on the Netflix platform.


    This part may not bother you if you already know what Netflix is. But if you do not know, then you should know so that you will get the point we are making correctly.

    Netflix is a video streaming service that allows subscribed members to watch a variety of movies, shows, series, documentaries, and so many others over the internet.


    Although it is an American company, it is one of the largest media service providers in the world. The company is internationally revered, however.


    Lion Heart is one of the most popular Nigerian movies that highly ranked on Netflix. The film was co-produced by Genevieve Nnaji, and it features many Nollywood veterans.

    The idea behind the movie was the toughness of the family bonds and how a woman was able to give a positive turn-around to her family’s business.

    1. THE WEDDING PARTY (1 & 2)

    The Wedding Party is a top Nigerian movie on Netflix. The film tells a story of how one among different characters accidentally proposes for marriage. This led to a disastrous traditional marriage ceremony and a wedding in Dubai.

    The movie was directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. It was released in 2017 and its Box Office read N1.1 billion currently.


    Chief Daddy was added on Netflix on March 15, 2019. The EbonyLife film shares a story of a billionaire industrialist. The Chief Daddy also has a very large extended family, which turned sour after she passed away just before Christmas.


    King of Boys is a gangster epic movie that was released in 2018. The movie depicts the story of power tussle between a businesswoman and Alhaja Enlola Salami, a philanthropist, who had political ambitions below their carpets.


    The Road to Yesterday is Chinny Onwugbenu’s movie; an emotional one that tells a story of a failing marriage. The couple reconnects on a road trip on which they reminisced on their beautiful past.


    Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons is another Nigerian movie trending on Netflix. It was set in Abuja and it tells a story of how four rich men who are actually the Merry Men seduce powerful women, steal from the rich and from it, help the less privileged.

    The movie was produced by AY and it has made up N230 million. The movie came to light in 2018.

    1. UP NORTH

    Up North is a movie shot in both Bauchi and Lagos States. It tells a story of a rebellious heir from a wealthy family, who was therefore sent to the northern part of Nigeria for his National Youth Service Corps.

    This movie was produced in 2018 and it is a 1 hour, 40 minutes one. It has made N250 million since its production.

    1. MOKALIK

    Mokalik is a movie set in a mechanic shop (automobile repair workshop). The movie tells a story of Ponmile, an 11 years only boy from a middle-class family. The boy spends his days as a lowly apprentice at this workshop so as to get the different sides of life. The movie was released on 31 May 2019.

    1. FIFTY

    Another popular Nigerian movie on Netflix is Fifty. This movie of 1 hour and 41 minutes was produced by Tope Oshina and directed by Biyi Bandele; it was released on 13th December 2015.

    1. 93 DAYS

    93 Days is a Nigerian movie whose story is based on the Ebola Virus outbreak in Nigeria in 2014. It shows how heroic health workers fought tooth and nail to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

    This movie which starred Bimbo Akintola, Danny Glover, Somkele Iyamah and so many others was released in 2018.
